From the love of dance to dance and movement-based methods

 

My Mom introduced me to ballroom dancing when I visited home for my first summer break during university. I have been dancing on and off since, going from ballroom to other social dances such as salsa and Argentine tango, then trying flamenco. There were long “off” periods during my 30’s and 40’s, when career and life demands took over, but every “on” mode I allowed myself I was reminded of how much I loved dancing.

 

When I turned 50, I decided to make dance a bigger part of my life, not only as my creative and emotional outlet but also as a methodology for my teaching and coaching practice. I have since taken contemporary and ballet classes as well – which I had previously considered appropriate only for young people – and have even choreographed my own piece.
